TERRA – micro-credentials for regenerative agriculture

A project developing a micro-credential and Open Badges ecosystem for skills linked to regenerative agriculture.

Co-funded by the European Union

About the project

The TERRA project, “Towards Education open badges system to Reach employability in Regenerative Agriculture”, aims to strengthen the existing training model for regenerative agriculture by enriching the qualifications ecosystem for occupations in this field and providing a micro-credentials system for learning activities (online, blended and face-to-face) based on Open Badges. The project will create a proactive resource exchange hub for regenerative agriculture micro-credentials, serving employers, agricultural workers, trainers and learners across Europe.

The TERRA project runs for 36 months. The project started on 1 January 2024, so its planned completion date is 31 December 2026

The project documents specify:

  • Project start: 01.01.2024
  • Duration: 36 months

Objectives

Main objectives of the TERRA project:

  • Identifying needs: Identifying labour market needs in terms of the skills required by employers in regenerative agriculture.
  • Designing learning pathways: Developing learning pathways based on short learning content.
  • Micro-credentials system: Defining a micro-credentials system and a framework for recognising skills associated with short learning content.
  • Sharing platform: Creating and providing an open platform for sharing the TERRA badge ecosystem.

The project envisages engaging 1200 users across three profiles: 600 small-scale farmers, 400 agricultural workers and 200 VET trainers. Expected results include a labour market needs report, learning pathway reports, a methodological guide to the micro-credentials system and an open-source toolkit for creating micro-credentials based on the badge ecosystem. TERRA aims to increase employability in regenerative agriculture by providing new training tools and methods.

Mission

Our mission

Through an approach focused on certification through micro-credentials, we provide an accessible and comprehensive range of learning resources enabling people in the agricultural sector to gain valuable credentials while applying sustainable and regenerative farming practices. By promoting soil health, biodiversity and climate resilience, our platform supports a more robust, environmentally friendly and resilient agricultural system.

Our vision

Regenerative agriculture is one of the keys to revitalising rural ecosystems and promoting land productivity. However, it is essential to recognise farmers as the driving force behind this change and its main beneficiaries.

Through TERRA, farmers will find a space for recognition and respect, focused on the positive practices and results achieved through regenerative agriculture (RA). Every farmer can benefit from RA techniques and obtain certificates that recognise their work, while developing entrepreneurial skills through specialist courses.

By joining forces for more sustainable and prosperous agriculture, we can build a better future for our fields and communities.
