I.6.6 Research support
Project title
Research assessing the quality of beeswax used by beekeepers to produce wax foundation, through analyses using the innovative WAXO device
Planned research within the project
Alongside practical activities, an important part of the project consists of research and analysis aimed at monitoring the effects of the intervention and generating knowledge to support the further development of beekeeping.
Research objective
To better understand which beekeeping practices are most effective in improving bee performance and which factors have the greatest impact on bee health.
To provide reliable data supporting the development of beekeeping based on science and field experience.
Scope of planned research
- Analysis of the chemical composition of wax foundation Identifying contaminants: residues of pesticides, antibiotics, paraffin or stearin. Checking beeswax content (whether it has been adulterated with additives).
- Assessing the impact of wax foundation quality on bee colony development Observing whether bees build comb properly on the supplied foundation. Checking for phenomena such as abandoned cells, reluctance to lay eggs or impaired larval development.
- Sampling and reporting Collected wax foundation samples will be tested using a specialist WAXO analyser. The research results will be compiled into reports and published on the project website for educational purposes.
Publication of results
The research results have been published in the article: ASSESSMENT OF BEESWAX QUALITY BASED ON THE δ INDEX USING THE WAXONEXT DEVICE
