On 14 April this year students of the third semester of the Master's Degrees in Agriculture from the subject Modern methods used in breeding, evaluation and agrobiotechnology as well as students of the 6th semester of engineering studies in Commodity Science from the subject The Institute of Plant Breeding and Acclimatization in Radzików visited. Students had the opportunity to listen to three lectures entitled “From Plant Domestication to Biotechnologies”, “Bank Genów- learning not only jars”, and “New Genomic Techniques – Directional Mutagenese in Plant Breeding for Sustainable Agriculture”. After a part of the lecture there was a visit to laboratories, where students took practical knowledge of research, control of GMOs and methods of storing gene resources - the Genome Bank.  Individual laboratories were discussed in detail and presented to students. Functional Genomics Laboratory, is concerned with the study of the function of genes and physiological processes that shape important performance characteristics related to the yield and technological properties of cereal grains. This facility investigates plant response mechanisms to fungal and viral pathogens using RNA interference, gene editing and nanoparticles. Laboratory of Genetical Control of Modified Organisms develop and validate methods of analysis for GMOs. It deals with the detection, identification and evaluation of GMOs in seed, food and feed in accordance with current legal requirements.  National Plant Gene Resource Centre collecting, describing and valuing populations and varieties of crops and wild plants threatened by genetic erosion. It maintains a long-term central repository of plant genetic resources in the form of seeds. It develops genomic and transcriptomic studies of the genetic resources of commercial plants.

The laboratories made a huge impression, shedding light on the issues of genetic modification and plant breeding techniques for sustainable agriculture.
