Milking robots and farm innovations: Agriculture students visit a farm in Osobne

On 07.05.2022, students of the third semester of the Master's studies in Agriculture, within the framework of exercises on Environmental and preventive conditions for animal production, visited dairy cattle farmers from the village of Osobne. Mr. Tomasz Bruliński is the owner of a freelance workshop equipped with DeLaval gum robots. The characteristic wooden slatted building meets all the requirements for animal welfare and comfort. The precinct is divided into zones, and that's what sets it apart. On the side of the feeding table there is a feeding area with 'raised' stands for cows, and on the side of the walls there is a laying area with feeding stations. The movement of cows in the pen is controlled by a gate system. Appropriate air circulation (several air fans have been installed), daylight, artificial (lighting programme), chandelier. The whole thing makes the barn cows-friendly. All these elements increase the movement of cows in the pen, and this is very important, because the success of a cow-robot pen depends on whether there is a fairly intense movement of cows in the pen. The intensive movement of the cows in the pen ensures that the animals will frequently approach the feeding station, often enough to avoid too many delays in milking.

An innovative solution on Mr. Thomas' farm is to store manure. An automatic collector removes the waste into an intermediate reservoir, from where it is pumped to the main reservoir, which was built in a field 300 m from the farm.
