On 16.06.2025, students of the VI Semester of Agriculture and the I Semester of Master's studies as part of the diploma seminar participated in the National Ecological Day of Variety Experimentation at COBORU Variety Assessment Test Station in Krzyżów.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Director of the Experimental Station for Variety Assessment, Archbishop Arkadiusz Kalinowski, welcomed all participants in the National Ecological Variety Experimentation Day of COBORU for their participation and interest in organic farming.

The main aim of the students' participation was to learn more about the cultivation of cereals, potatoes and beans in an ecological system. Most of the students participating in the project will be authors of engineering and master's theses based on the results of experiments carried out at SDOO in Krzyżów, which are scheduled to be defended in March and July 2026.

In favourable climatic conditions, all participants participated in workshops which aimed to observe and compare the growth of individual plant groups in organic cultivation with conventional cultivation. All the students were astonished and amazed at the growth and beautiful appearance of some of the above-ground potatoes of various early grades. The workshops also presented seed plantations of common oats and germ wheat grown in an ecological system. At the end of the workshops, a practical demonstration was made of how weeds in organic crops can be controlled by agro-technical care procedures with a lawnmower and intercropping sawdust.

After very interesting workshops, everyone listened to the speeches of Prof. Dr. habil with interest. Henryk Bujak – Director of COBORU on “COBORU actions for organic farming”. Other occurrences based on the results of the experiments, the subjects of which are presented below, were also very intriguing and surprising.

"LIVESEEDING- Organic breeding, experimentation and seed production to balance and diversify food systems in Europe" – Dr. inż. Tomasz Lenartowicz

"The state and specificity of organic farming in Podlaskie Voivodeship" – Dr. habil.  Renata Adventure Prof. UwB.

"Selected aspects of the organic farming system" Representative of the CDR Brwinów O/Radom Dariusz Połała.

Presentation of offers of fertilizers and biological agents authorised for use in organic farming – representatives of BIO-GEN, PROCAM, TIMAK, ROL POL

At the end of the official part, all participants taking part in COBORU's National Variety Experimentation Day in Krzyzewie were invited to a meal.

On behalf of the MANS academic community in Łomża, we would like to thank all the organisers and in particular the Directorate and all the staff of the Variety Assessment Test Station in Krzyżów for allowing us to take part in the COBORU National Variety Experiment Day and for sharing our knowledge and experience in the field of crop and plant growing technology as well as the methodology of experiments carried out in the ecological system.
