A consortium of six partner organisations from five European countries has launched a new project called KICRO, which stands for 'Knowledge and Identification of CROp diseases for sustainable food safety'. The aim of this project is to provide the fruit and vegetable sector with tools to increase knowledge and identify crop diseases and their sources more accurately, thereby reducing significant losses and waste throughout the food supply chain.
The project, funded by Erasmus+, will create an e-learning platform with educational materials on crop diseases available in five languages. The platform will be publicly available and addressed to farmers, harvesters, packer workers and other stakeholders. The project also provides for pilot pilot training with 50 participants from different countries and one dissemination event in each country to present the results of the project and raise awareness about the importance of strengthening the position of the fruit and vegetable sector through these tools.
The project is coordinated by MANS, a modern education, research and training institution offering a variety of programmes and courses related to agriculture and agribusiness. The other partners are: REZOS BRANDS, a small and medium-sized agri-food enterprise from Greece; COSVITEC, a vocational training centre from Italy; S.E.A.L CYPRUS, an NGO promoting sustainable education and active learning from Cyprus; BALKAN BRIDGE, a research and innovation company from Bulgaria; and The Polish Farm Advisory and Training Centre, a small and medium-sized enterprise providing advisory and training services to farmers from Poland.
The project will run for 24 months, from September 2023 to August 2025. The project website will provide detailed information on the activities, results and impact of the project. In addition, the project will be actively present on social media such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, where regular news and updates will be published.
