Plenary session: The role of mentoring in the development of soft skills

Plenary session: “The role of mentoring in developing soft competences“ is one of the sessions organised in the framework of a conference held on 22 October 2022 in Łomża and summarising the BEGIN project funded under the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. The session is organized in front of V-Systems, a company from Warsaw, which has been active in the field of implementation of cross-sectoral social projects for years, as well as the International Academy of Social Sciences (MANS) from Łomża, an academic partner from Poland.

Thematic scope. What's mentoring?

The session focuses on the role of mentoring in the development of soft skills with a particular focus on students as recipients of mentoring. Mentoring is a challenging relationship based on trust, sharing of experience and focusing on paying attention to the other person.

Education seeks efficient, effective and inexpensive ways to develop students, future workers. One such method is mentoring. Interest in it is growing because professionals have realised that participation in the labour market requires not only formal education but also personal development. One such form is complementary online courses and mentoring programmes offered at universities. Graduates leave the university equipped with knowledge, skills and experience - traineeships. The good shortcomings of this educational path are soft skills, self-awareness, attitudes, proven strategies for working in a rapidly changing reality. Soft skills are most often learned in a relationship of trust, from a mentor.

Mentoring is a method used by experienced professionals to develop people entering their careers, preparing them for new roles, important changes or new projects. Drawing on the experience of older people is as old as the world, present in many areas of life and now adapted to modern learning techniques, and today demands a return to its proper status in the professional, business and private spheres.

This is exactly the mentoring project of BEGIN.

The logos of the BEGIN project partners are emcra, LUISS, Mobility Friends, V-Systems, ECQ and MANS.
