How can you avoid the "drop-out" phenomenon and choose a degree that guarantees a fulfilling career? These are the main questions that students from secondary schools were looking for answers to during the MANS Open Day.
University at ul. Students 19 visited over 300 students from all over the region – including Ostrołęka, Suwałk, Janów Podlaski, Łysych and Lubiejew. The event was organised as part of the project ‘Stay Connected’, whose overriding aim is to support young people in the process of making good educational decisions.
Stop the “drop out” phenomenon
The rector of the MANS in Łomża, Dr. Ing. Ireneusz Żuchowski, emphasizes that early school leaving, or so-called. drop outThis is a serious social problem.
This is a significant phenomenon in Poland. The percentage of students dropping out of school in certain subjects is as high as 20 to 25%. Often the reason is not money or lack of time, but a sudden change in approach to one's own education. That's why it's so important for prospective students to choose responsibly. We want them to be aware of their choices, which will avoid disappointment and allow a smooth transition from university to the job market. Dr. Ing. Ireneusz Żuchowski.
Theory in practice: From dactyloscopy to modern construction
During the Open Day, the pupils had the opportunity not only to learn about MANS's teaching offer, but above all to take a closer look at the specificities of the chosen professions. The programme was rich in practical activities:
- Construction: The participants learned about the work of the structural designer and the use of modern technologies such as drones or 3D printing in construction. The lecture was conducted by Edyta Burzyńska-Malinowska.
- Internal security: Dr. Bartosz Murat conducted workshops on forensics. Students could try their own hand in fingerprinting – a method of revealing and securing fingerprints.
Which directions to choose?
The rector of MANS pointed out that the key to success is to combine interests with the needs of the local and national labour market.
– The professions of the future remain those related to medicine, computer science and artificial intelligence. But it's worth looking at the region. Agriculture, construction, security (due to its border location) and transport and logistics are of great importance in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, without which the functioning of society is impossible. – concludes Dr. Inż. Żuchowski.
The university has once again proved to be a place where education and practice work closely together, giving young people a solid foundation for planning their professional future.
