Dr Zoia Sharlovych recognised in the Community Activist of the Year 2022 competition

Dr. Zoia Sharlovich, winner of the "Community of the Year 2022" competition.

Every day, Ms. Zoia works in our recruitment and foreign relations department. She came to our town a few years ago, looking for her daughter, who chose our college to build her career. It quickly turned out that Ms. Zoia has the right skills, knows Polish, the specifics of working at the University, so we offered her a job in our international department. Previously, before coming to Poland, Dr. Scharlovyvh worked at the Food Medical Institute as Head of the Postgraduate Department.

From the very beginning, Dr. Sheppard has made a name for herself as an empathetic person.

-Ms. Zoia is a Ukrainian employee of MANS. After the outbreak of war in her homeland, she responded with great commitment to the request of the Municipality of Łomża and helped to receive refugees, supporting the Municipal Crisis Management Center in translating conversations and documents. She assembles a group of students and coordinates their work as a volunteer, taking turns with them on long shifts. She is still actively supporting refugees in Łomża. – reads the Communication from the Łomż City Hall

When the war broke out in her country on February 24th, we remember that Mrs. Zoi's world collapsed, she was worried about her family, her son-in-law was fighting at the front, she quickly brought back her second daughter and children. That's when she could have ended her activities. Her girls were safe now. It didn't happen, she bet on sleepless nights, buckets of tears and overwork.

After a few days of fighting in Ukraine, the rector of MANS, Roman Engler, suggested that one of the student houses be turned over to refugee housing. Mrs. Zoya immediately coordinated everything, with the help of the university team, completing everything that was needed.

As she humbly says, I couldn't have done it any other way.

Mrs. Zoiu, we congratulate you on your attitude, we wish you a lot of strength, we're proud to have such people on board.

The Łomżyński Socialik of the Year and the Łomżyńska Initiative of the Year 2022 could be attended by non-governmental organisations (associations, foundations, sports clubs, volunteer fire departments), social cooperatives, individuals, educational institutions, cultural institutions, social assistance institutions, medical care units and other institutions cooperating with volunteers and NGOs in the city.  Applications for awards and titles were accepted at the City Office in Łomża from 1 to 30 October 2022. A total of 18 applications were received: six in the category up to the age of 20, eight in the category above 20 and four in the category of the initiative. The candidates were analysed by the jury of the competition, which was the Łomżyńska Council for Public Use Activities
